July 31st RB Accomplishments

Played quite a bit of Rock Band bass last night and figured I’d list my most recent accomplishments here for people to see.

Train Kept a Rollin’ 1st:

TKAR bass 1st

TKAR Bass 1st

Summertime Blues 1st:

Summertime Blues 1st

Summertime Blues 1st

Aside from these I pulled off a -1 of Run to the Hills (FC soon I hope) as well as some reFC’s of Flirtin’ With Disaster and Timmy which put me back up in the top 10 bassists.

Then, live on stream I decided to practice GGaHT solo 2E for shits and giggles…

I FC’d it 3 times getting both the 2nd and third on video!

PGL-Ottawa GH3 Champion

edit: A video of our last two match songs has been uploaded to the PGL Youtube page. Here’s the vid:

OK, so I’m reading the tournament forums a few weeks back and notice there’s a cool tourney going on in Ottawa but I just put it in the back of my mind and never thought about it. I later remembered and completely last minute called up my buddy (at 3:00 am) to ask him if he wanted to make the 4.5 hour trip with me. We left at 4:30 am, got there around 9 am with about one hour of sleep (if you want to call it that) in the passenger seat.

When I got there, I realized I had no cash on me (like an idiot) and my friend lent me the $40 entrance fee. Apparently last PGL had over 35 participants in the GH3 tournament however Ottawa only produced 5 opponents for me to play against.

First song we had to play was Stricken for seeding. I missing a random sp phrase chord at the beginning and proceeded to FC the rest of the song with a very botched sp path ending with a score of about 478k (respectable but not representative of a -1 run >_>)

This got me 2nd seed, first was 501k set by a fellow SHer doparent

This gave me and the 1st seed a buy (sp?) to the next round where I faced one of the winners from the first round (SH name Dynasty99). I picked the Slash Battle and somehow murdered the sp path lol, final score was about 40k below that of Dynasty99. Next he picked Impulse and we had a great fight. He lead the entire song due to a miss I had in the trichords in the beginning but since I had the better SP path I began to catch back up however lost in the end by ~1k points. It was close.

To say the least, I was really disappointed that I lost and started to play for fun as the competition continued. I was then put up against (SH name - WaffleCake) and beat him at the very end strumming of Helicopter (which he chose) and another win this time on The Way It Ends (this one by a much larger margin - 200k or so)

A few solo games later, my friend comes up to me and says that he found out the tournament is set up as double elimination - meaning I’m still in the game! I was very excited to say the least. My next match was against the guy in the Canadiens Jersey (doparent :P). We played The Way It Ends as my pick (since I felt confident I was capable of pulling off a win with it) and Even Flow as his pick. I took both wins pulling off an FC of Even Flow as well.

This took me to the finals

…where I had to face Dynasty99 - who had beat me twice at this point >__>

My friend and I went to grab some lunch (I had a steak sub - it was tasty)

Coming back to the venue they had set us up a projector to play on (we were playing on lcd’s earlier - surprisingly relatively lag-free)

The way the finals were to work was you had to win a best 2 out of 3 matches (a match being best 2 of 3 songs). Since Dynasty beat me earlier he was given a match point and therefore I had to win 2 matches vs him having to win 1.

After confirming our settings were ok and all the camera’s were set up properly - Dynasty was given the first pick. His choice: Before I Forget

Pretty close match for the most part however he had a couple crucial misses under starpower which allowed me to take the win in the end (-5 I believe for me)

For the 2nd song of the set I picked The Way it Ends (I know, I know - third time of the day - but really - why change something that ain’t broke >_>) I won this match as well by a large margin ( I guess I can strum under pressure :P)

score 1 - 1

Dynasty’s next pick was Nothing For Me Here. I absolutely love the song and this was a close match from what I remember however I did come out on top in the end. I was feeling pretty elated at this point seeing as I thought I was going to lose my first two matches!

For my next pick I chose Down ‘N Dirty (I wanted to choose TTFAF however Dynasty had been tearing that song up all day and consistently got scores higher than my best (493k in career) so I didn’t want to go and lose the competition just to play “the hardest” song. DnD was close throughout the entire song - a true nail biter however Dynasty had a couple mis-activations and I came out on top for 4 straight games. I couldn’t believe I had just done that. For fun we decided to play TTFAF afterward to put on a show for the people watching…

Don’t ask me how…maybe RB Bass is something people should play more often cause it makes you leet at ttfaf >__> but I pulled of a whopping score of just under 600k! (599398 If I’m not mistaken). I absolutely couldn’t believe it. My first 5* of the song and it was broadcasted live online, recorded, commentated, and during a competition. Seriously WTF!

So I just wanted to say awesome job to Dynasty99 for bringing out the best in me. Having awesome competition makes playing so much more fun. I hope to see you guys In Montreal and Toronto for the next two tourney’s.
